Preservation
Paul has successfully advocated for appreciation and preservation of mid-century modern architecture. He is a co-founder of of DoCoMoMo_noca, the Northern California working party of the international modernist preservation organization, and under their auspices contributed to the successful nomination of two Eichler neighborhoods to the National Register of Historic Places. He subsequently served in the national board of DoCoMoMo_us. He also served as an adviser to SHPO, the California State Preservation Office, advising on the evaluation of modern resources. In a freelance capacity he has lectured before preservation groups including SF Heritage and The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, and written numerous articles for journals and periodicals elucidating the virtues of mid-century modern design
Sustainability
Paul advocates for sustainable strategies in design and construction as an architect, and as a board member of the William J Worthen Foundation. The William Worthen Foundation develops educational content to support members of the design and construction industry with information and guidance for practicable implementing of energy and water conservation and decarbonization. He organized and presented a session on decarbonization at the A’23Conference on Architecture, in 2023.
